Everyone has stories worth telling. This full-day, hands-on workshop invites writers of all experience levels to explore the memories, places, and people that have shaped their lives. Through short craft talks, guided writing exercises, and supportive group conversation, participants will learn practical techniques used in memoir and personal essay. The workshop focuses on two powerful storytelling tools: using sensory detail to bring memories to life and shaping scenes that move between lived moments and personal reflection.
Participants will spend the day generating new material, experimenting with craft techniques, and revising a short scene drawn from their own experiences. Opportunities for voluntary sharing and discussion will help writers see what resonates with readers and discover new possibilities in their work. No previous writing experience is required.
Instructor Hope Jordan is a writer, teacher, and New Hampshire's first official poetry slam master. She teaches creative nonfiction at Plymouth State University. Her recent work appears in “JMWWW,” “Orca: A Literary Journal,” “Cutleaf,” and “The Blue Mountain Review,” and her chapbook, “The Day She Decided to Feed Crows,” was published by Cervena Barva Press.
