Free Online Class

Joins us for this two-session online class. As the current administration and Congress are pushing more responsibility onto state and local governments while cutting federal support, residents need to pay close attention to what is happening close to home. Students will decide to pick one or two issues they care about and learn how to track and possibly influence what is happening with those issues. They will learn how to obtain information from their state and local governments; build a network of people with similar concerns; understand how to lobby for their issues; and gain an understanding of the various ways they can make a difference in their communities.

Instructor Miranda Spivack is a journalist and longtime investigative reporter whose work has focused on state and local government accountability and transparency. A former Washington Post journalist, she is the author of “Backroom Deals in Our Backyards: How Government Secrecy Harms Out Communities and the Local Heroes Fighting Back.”
