This class delves into the multifaceted ways in which AI technologies are impacting the dissemination, consumption, and detection of misinformation within various media platforms. Using examples taken from today’s news and information sharing, and through hands-on AI creation, students will learn strategies to enhance media literacy, and explore potential ethical implications tied to the implementation of AI-powered solutions. This class equips students with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the evolving landscape of information, AI, and media, fostering a deeper understanding of how these forces intersect and influence one another.

Saving Lives – The Art of Writing about People, with instructor Kimberly Marlowe Hartnett

Biography can take many forms – from book-length manuscripts, short profiles, or liner notes to family histories, obituaries, and other tributes. Whether you’re writing for a scholarly audience, humor lovers, armchair historians, or even members of your own family, this course will help you stare down the blank page (or screen) and understand how to capture the significant elements of a storied life. The techniques we discuss, and practice, will strengthen your interviewing and research skills, as well as help you write interesting and engaging narrative prose.

Messaging Your Mission, with instructor Lauren Collins Cline

This class will help professionals, business owners, and leaders understand how to cut through the clutter of messaging and get to the core of any communication—your mission.

Understanding why you do what you do and why it matters can be harder to put into words than you think.  But harnessing your mission gives you a foundation for all your communication, both internal and external, that keeps you and your brand authentic and on-message.
